Rock Climbing Lessons in The Burren
Want to see the beautiful Burren in a unique way? Or are you looking for a little adventure in the West of Ireland? No matter what your needs and ability levels are, we are here to help you meet your climbing goals.
We offer rock climbing lessons for beginners to more experienced climbers. All rock climbing equipment is provided and our climbing instructors are fully qualified and insured. We offer rock climbing lessons for all: individuals, families, schools and other groups. For those nervous of heights, why not come conquer your fear? There is no rock climbing experience needed and we can cater for all ability levels.
Our rock climbing lessons run for two hours, in small groups of 6 (although we do cater for larger climbing groups we still work on small ratios). This ensures everyone receives loads of climbing time and personal attention when climbing.
During your rock climbing lesson you will get in a number of climbs, be introduced and taught how to use the climbing gear and ropes, and even get a few abseils in as well!
Our group lessons are run every day that the weather permits, and we need a minimum of two people to run lessons. On your own? Not to worry, always contact us as we generally have lessons going out that you can go in on. And, we'll get you out into the wilds of The Burren and on your first climbing adventure!
Our Climbing Area
Our climbing area is based in Ballyryan, right on the edge of the Burren, with sea cliffs over looking the Atlantic and Aran islands, offering lots of climbing options for all levels. With over three hundred climbing routes in the area it is the unknown jewel of rock climbing in Co. Clare. We are only 20 minutes from Lahinch and only an hour from Galway city.
Weekend Climbing Courses
Our weekend rock climbing course is designed to equip novice climbers with a full range of climbing experiences, from trying out lots of different styles of rock climbing and climbing routes, to using ropes and different equipment to best protect you when climbing, to gaining experience in setting up rope systems.
As we work in small groups we can cater for all levels and also adapt the weekend to your personnel needs. The weekend consists of four climbing sessions plus theory chats on equipment etc. over lunch each day. Weekend course need a minimum of 2 to run and can be run any weekend throughout the year.
What you need to bring?
It’s Ireland and the weather changes quickly, so bring warm clothes and a rain jacket (we have some if you are stuck).
Sturdy runners or boots are good to begin climbing and if you progress on to harder climbs we have a range of climbing shoes to try out.
Sun cream and a drink are a good idea in the summer and a hat and gloves in the winter (Sept- April).
How to get there?
follow the coast along the R477, though Fanore along Galway Bay.
The road runs up a hill and swings right out of the bay.
There is a cliff on your left hand side, where it ends is our climbing area.
Drive out of town to Ennistymon, take a left in the village and drive towards Lisdoonvarna (15minutes) along the N67.
As you are about to enter Lisdoonvarna you cross a narrow bridge, at the next junction take the coast road to Fanore R477.
This winds along untill it hits the coast and then swings right to follow the coast line, there are cliffs 300ms up on the right that’s our spot.
Take N18 south towards Limerick.
In Kilcolgan drive through village and take major right, sign posted for Burren and Ballyvaghan (N67).
Drive to Ballyvaghan 20 mins. along this road. Follow directions above.
